Seasons of Living
Paintings by the Livingston Art Group
Exhibit: September 7-November 13, 2010
Opening Reception: September 9, 5-7pm
Youth may be wasted on the young, but talent is eternal. We are pleased to have the members of the Livingston Art Group in Apartment One Gallery as part of their ten year anniversary. A decade ago, the Livingston Art Group began with a Community Arts Grant from the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts. After two years of this seed money, the organization was so successful that they no longer needed the grant. They’ve been going strong ever since.
Things began with a call to then-program coordinator Kathryn Hollinger. “I had an irate woman on the phone wanting to know why she had to go all the way to Silver Lake for a painting workshop when we had our own Conesus Lake. We helped them write a Community Arts Grant, and then they took off.” Over the past decade, the group has not only offered support, friendship and networking to local artists, they have also sponsored many classes with visiting instructors. They still offer a scholarship to local high school art students.
While the group’s artwork runs the gamut of mediums and subjects within the realist style, much of their work is inspired by the beautiful Genesee Valley they call home. For this group, it is all about the joy of painting, the thrill of challenging yourself to learn and improve, and the wonderful friendships they have made. This dedication shows in their work, which will bring joy to all who visit Apartment One this fall.
In 2007, Livingston Art Group co-founders Jane Lawson, Sally Moses and Dorothy Weichenthal were recipients of GVCA’s Arts Leadership Award. Interested in joining the fun? Livingston Art Group meets every Tuesday 9am to 2pm at the Chip Holt Community Center, Vitale Park in Lakeville. It’s free! Just bring your paints and a bag lunch.
