Organization
Livingston Arts Center is a collaborative project of the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts (GVCA) and Livingston County. The Arts Center is staffed and managed by the GVCA.

Livingston Arts Center serves as a permanent home for the county’s collection of WPA paintings created through a New Deal program, contains a second exhibition area, Apartment One, and houses learning space and the GVCA’s offices.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts is to enrich the quality of life in Livingston County by encouraging and promoting the arts and cultural activities through support of artists, schools and community groups.

Brief History of GVCA
The Genesee Valley Council on the Arts has served Livingston County for 40 years. A not-for-profit corporation, the Council is dedicated to the development and promotion of the arts and culture in this beautiful region of western New York.

The Genesee Valley Council on the Arts was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation in 1971 and designated Livingston County's official arts organization in 1974.

GVCA supports an array of programs and services for artists, arts and cultural organizations, students and the community at large. Primarily an arts service organization with offices on the Livingston County Campus in Mount Morris, the arts council forms partnerships with businesses, schools, SUNY Geneseo, libraries, historical societies and other organizations and individuals to serve local artists and audiences. Our programs include Mini-Gallery exhibits in four area banks, an annual members exhibit at the Bertha V.B. Lederer Gallery at SUNY Geneseo, artists' residencies in the schools, folk arts presentations at various sites around the county, an annual high school student art exhibit, Community Arts Grants for arts and cultural projects, Individual Artists Grants, and Dick Smith Young Artists Grants which support high school juniors' and seniors' study in the arts. In addition, GVCA maintains an extensive registry of local artists, provides information and assistance, and publishes ArtSphere, a bi-monthly newsletter containing the county's most comprehensive arts and cultural calendar.

In late 2006, GVCA began a two-year project with the county to renovate Building 4 on the Livingston County Campus in Mount Morris. The doors opened to Livingston Arts Center on December 4, 2008. The Arts Center is open to the public; this has moved GVCA from a service delivery nonprofit to manager of a cultural destination.
